چکیده

In a time division duplex (TDD) based adaptive array antenna (AAA)/space division multiple access (SDMA) system, the array weights determined from up-link signals can be applied to the down-link transmission because of the channel reciprocity. However, under fast fading conditions, for example due to fast moving mobile station (MS), the array weights are no longer optimum for the down-link signal transmission and hence the spectral efficiency of the system degrades in down-link. In this paper, we present the computer simulation and field experiment down-link performance of MS with two antenna elements moving at various velocities in the field trial system of i-Burst, which is a wireless broadband system employing AAA and SDMA techniques. Both the results show that adaptive antenna processing at MS is effective in improving the mobility performance of TDDAAA/SDMA system.

Optimization Capabilities of LMS and SMI Algorithm for Smart Antenna Systems (RESEARCH NOTE)

In the present paper convergence characteristics of Sample matrix Inversion (SMI) and Least Mean Square (LMS) adaptive beam-forming algorithms (ABFA) are compared for a Smart Antenna System (SAS) in a multipath environment. SAS are employed at base stations for radiating narrow beams at the desired mobile users. The ABFA are incorporated in the digital signal processors for adjusting the weight...

Development of Adaptive Array Antenna for Mobile WiMAX Uplink

Mobile worldwide interoperability for microwave access (Mobile WiMAX) based on IEEE 802.16e is a standard designed for metropolitan area networks (MAN) that cover an area wider than that covered by local area networks. Commercial WiMAX services are already available in some countries and regions. Services in Japan are scheduled to start in 2009. Mobile WiMAX supports “one-cell frequency reuse,”...

The Range Increase of Adaptive Versus Phased Arrays in Mobile Radio Systems

In this paper, we compare the increase in range with multiple-antenna base stations using adaptive array combining to that of phased array combining. With adaptive arrays, the received signals at the antennas are combined to maximize signalto-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) rather than only form a directed beam. Although more complex to implement, adaptive arrays have the advantage of high...

An Enhanced MSS-based checkpointing Scheme for Mobile Computing Environment

Mobile computing systems are made up of different components among which Mobile Support Stations (MSSs) play a key role. This paper proposes an efficient MSS-based non-blocking coordinated checkpointing scheme for mobile computing environment. In the scheme suggested nearly all aspects of checkpointing and their related overheads are forwarded to the MSSs and as a result the workload of Mobile ...
